Underlayment:
TMCS offers two kinds of underlayment systems:
- STANDARD: which is #15 or #30 pound felt.
- PREFERRED: which is the GAF-Elk Weather Stopper® underlayment system.
TMCS's PREFERRED underlayment materials is the GAF-Elk Weather Stopper® for preparing your new roof with premium quality protection. This is quality you can trust from GAF-Elk—North America's largest roofing manufacturer. Weather Stopper® materials include:
GAF-Elk Roof Deck Protection: Deck-Armor™, Shingle-Mate®, or Leatherback™ product.
GAF-Elk Leak Barrier: Weather Watch® or StormGuard® product.

Guidelines: Roof Ventilation
Ventilation provides the conditions that allow air to flow—out with the hot air and in with the cool air. When stale, overheated air in your home or attic is vented out and fresh air is pulled in you have an "air exchange."Effective ventilation requires a balancing act. You want to "wash" the entire attic by pulling air from the intake vents low on the roof's edge, or in the soffit, to the vents at the ridge in the high areas.
Ventilation should never be an afterthought in constructing a home. Without proper ventilation, needless heat and humidity can become serious problems, such as:
- Surplus heat and moisture can cause attic and roof structures, plus shingles and paint to deteriorate prematurely
- Excess heat causes air conditioners to work more, consuming more energy and costing you more money
- Extra moisture can lower the R-value (R-value is heat resistance) of some insulation
- Excess moisture and humidity enable mold, mildew and wood rot
- Proper ventilation is required to validate warranty coverage for most roofing shingles.
What warranties do you give?
We give a 5-year and 10-year installation warranty from TMCS, covering leak repair and defects in installation. The material manufacturer will give their own product warranty for the longevity of the product.
Yes you can. We have current accounts with all our suppliers, and they are willing to receive payments from our customers, if requested.
We recommend gutters on most roofing jobs, but this depends upon your circumstances, age of gutters, etc. Normally when a roof is ready to be replaced, the gutters are nearing the end of their useful life. It's more cost effective to replace the gutters when the roof is being installed, and saves disturbing the perimeter of your new roof at a later date.
If you are considering a skylight, the time to have the work done is when re-roofing. We will consider each project on an individual basis and consult you regarding the pros and possible cons.
